Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania batted around in both the third and fourth innings Tuesday and went to to knock off Centre 14-1 in non-conference college baseball action at Marquard Field.
The Pioneers are 10-5 on the season while the Colonels are 9-15. Transy defeated Centre in Danville earlier this month.
Transy scored five times in the third, then put the game out of reach by sending 15 batters to the plate in the fourth, scoring nine times.
Johnny Renz (Milford, Ohio) had a two-run triple in the frame and
Zach Muench (Ft. Thomas, Ky.)also had two RBI on a sacrifice fly and run-scoring hit. Six different Pioneers drove home runs in the decisive inning.
Andy Emery (Louisville, Ky.) (2-0) benefitted from the offensive outburst, allowing just one hit in five innings with one strikeout and two walks. Four Transy relievers combined to allow Centre two hits and one run, which came in the ninth inning.
Six Centre pitchers allowed 12 Transy hits and were hurt by five fielding errors behind them.
Drew Zuckerman (Lexington, Ky.) had a double, drove in three runs, and scored two more.
Ken Riley (Lexington, Ky.)had two hits and two RBI while
Thomas Tolliver (Wurtland, Ky.), who remained tied for the school stolen base record with 53, had two hits and scored three times.
John Doering (Newport Coast, Calif.)added two hits and three runs.
Transy hosts Bluffton in a weekend HCAC series, beginning with a single 4 p.m. game on Friday and and a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at noon.
