LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Transylvania dropped a pair of games to DePauw Sunday at St. Xavier High School in college baseball action.
The Pioneers (2-4) lost a 7-2 eight-inning decision in the first game that was a scheduled seven-inning affair, then lost the second game 6-3 to DePauw (6-0).
In the first game, Transy led 2-1 after two innings only to see DePauw tie the game in the fifth. The Tigers scored five runs in the eighth for the win.
John Michael Cowley and
Sam Liggett drove in runs for the Pioneers, who had four hits.
Taylor Bugh started for the Pioneers and went five innings, allowing eight hits and two runs.
Danny Niehaus went two and two-thirds innings and was given the loss.
Nick Edwards got the final out for Transy.
In the second game,
Zach Riney and Liggett each had two hits among Transy's eight-hit attack. Transy trailed 5-0 after three innings, but rallied for three runs in the fourth to close the gap.
Zach Bynum had two RBI for Transy.
Matt Morgan went four innings and got the loss. He allowed six hits and five runs, four earned. He struck out three and walked none.
Shelby Dixon finished up, allowing two hits and a run in three innings of four.
Transy will return to action in the Russ Matt Invitational in Auburndale, Fla., during Spring Break. The seven-game road trip begins on Sunday when the Pioneers take on Ripon and Suffolk.
