HANOVER, Ind. - Hanover rallied for four runs in the final two innings, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday, and topped Transylvania 10-9 in Heartland Conference baseball action.
Transy (11-10, 5-3 HCAC) led the Panthers (16-7, 6-2 HCAC) 9-6 heading into the bottom of the eighth. Hanover tallied three runs in the eighth to tie the score, then got the winner on a bases-loaded walk with one out.
Danny Niehaus, the third of four Pioneer hurlers, took the loss, dropping him to 1-2 on the season. He went two innings and gave up six hits and four runs. He struck out three and walked two.
Taylor Bugh started for the Pioneers and was relieved by
Shelby Dixon in the fifth.
Chris Bloch followed Niehaus and walked the only batter he faced.
The Transy offense, which grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first and rallied from a 6-5 deficit with three in the seventh, was paced by four hits and two RBI by
Zach Muench and three hits and two RBI by
Johnny Renz.
Zach Riney and
Sam Liggett also drove home two runs apiece for the Pioneers.
Riney had his first home run of the year, a two-run shot in the seventh.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday when they open a three-game HCAC road series at Bluffton. Friday's single game begins at 4:30 p.m.
