LEXINGTON, Ky. - Otterbein came back from a three-run deficit Wednesday, pushing across the winning run in the top of the 10th inning in a 10-9 non-conference win over Transylvania at Marquard Field.
The Pioneers (20-17) scored four times in the sixth inning to take a 9-6 advantage only to see the Cardinals (20-17) come up with three in the seventh, setting the stage for extra innings. The Pioneers left runners on first and third in the bottom of the 10th.
Danny Niehaus (1-3) took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings. The winning run scored on a two-out single to right. Niehaus had two strikeouts and one walk.
Sam Liggett hit his third home run of the year during Transy's four-run sixth, a three-run shot to left.
Zach Muench, one of eight Transy senior playing his final game in Marquard Field, followed with a solo blast to right, also his third, to make it 9-6.
Transy had 19 hits in the game, including four each by Muench and senior
Kevin Brinkman. Muench had a pair of doubles, scored three times and drove in a run while Brinkman had a run and a run batted in.
Zach Bynum, who entered the game on a 12 for 17 streak that earned him Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week honors, was two for four with a run and an RBI. He also reached on an error and was hit by a pitch.

Graham Winchester eached added two hits to the attack.
Transy is back in action on Saturday when it opens a critical three-game HCAC set at Manchester. The Pioneers enter the series with a 13-9 HCAC mark, good enough for fourth place in the league race, one game ahead of the Spartans. Four teams qualify for the conference tournament later this month. The winner of this series will get the fourth and final spot.
