LEXINGTON, Ky.- Transylvania grabbed its first lacrosse victory on Wednesday, topping Alma (Mich.) by a margin of 7-6 in a close physical battle.

The Pioneers move to 1-2 on the season and Alma posts a 0-1 record after the contest.
Transy got a cushion in the first period after scoring on an own goal in the first four minutes of the game, and quickly made it a three-score game as
Clay Douthat and
Sam Ives connected in the opening half.
Alma answered with a three-goal hat trick by Marshall Argenta, and took the lead heading into the halftime off an Eddie Robbins goal.
Transy came back with a vengeance after the half and scored three goals in the third quarter off the sticks of Douthat and
Ben Erwin who notched two third period goals. Erwin's third goal came in the fourth quarter and would end up as the deciding factor for the match.
Erwin led Transy in goals with three, while Douthat tallied up two goals and
Sam Ives added a goal and an assist.
Tre Downing and
Nick Herberth also received credit for assists.
In the net for Transy, and awarded with the win was
Joshua Slone, who had five saves and only allowed five goals.
The Pioneers out-shot Alma 31-23 and picked up more ground balls by a margin of 29-25.
Transy will be back in action at home this Sunday when they take on Beloit College at 1 p.m. That game will be held on the campus of Bryan Station High School.
