MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Rhodes build a 10-6 lead after three quarters of play Saturday, then held off a Transylvania rally to take a 12-9 men's lacrosse win over the Pioneers.
The outcome left both teams with 4-3 records.
Rhodes led 3-2 after the first 15 minutes of action and by one, 6-5, at halftime.
After the Lynx scored four of the five goals in the third quarter, the home team led 10-6 heading into the final period.
Evan Wright scored Transy's first goal in the fourth quarter off an assist by
Tre Downing. It was 10-8 after
Clay Douthat scored, converting a pass by
Evan Wright at the 11:52 mark. Rhodes broke the spell with a pair of goals before Douthat capped the scoring with a goal just before the buzzer.
Douthat had four goals in the game and
Ben Erwin added three. Downing and Wright each scored one goal.
Joshua Slone had 11 saves in goal for the Pioneers, who matched shots with Rhodes. Both teams took 36. Both teams had 23 shots on goal. Rhodes had a 45-17 edge on ground balls.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Mount St. Joseph for a 6 p.m. match.
