ATLANTA, Ga. – Transylvania's women's lacrosse team remained undefeated after its first two outings after taking an 11-10 victory over Oglethorpe Saturday.
The Pioneers are 2-0 while the Stormy Petrels dropped to 1-4 in their inaugural season.
Lucy Meredith broke a 10-10 tie with just over a minute to play with the game-winning goal after Oglethorpe tied the score with a pair of late goals in the final five minutes.
Transy led 7-5 at halftime and held off the home team in the second period to claim the win.
Aubrey Bausum had her second straight big game offensively, scoring six goals to pace the Pioneers. She had 10 scores in Transy's first win of the year.
Meredith added two goals for Transy and
Sky Spraker,
Katie Jackel, and
Rachel Harrison each scored a goal.
Transy keeper
Lydia Shaughnessy made five saves.
Meredith and Spraker were each credited with assists to spur the Transy attack.
Goals by Bausum late in the game gave Transy leads of 9-7 and 10-8 before the Petrels rallied to deadlock the contest.
Transy had a 32-22 edge in shots and a 17-12 advantage in ground balls.
The Pioneers are back in action on Monday when they travel to LaGrange for a 2 p.m. matchup.
