WILMINGTON, Ohio -
Ben Erwin scored eight goals Saturday, powering Transylvania to a 17-8 win over Wilmington, clinching a winning record for the Pioneers' first season of competition.
The Pioneers are 8-5 while the Quakers drop to 3-6. Transy won for the fourth time in its last five outings and will finish above .500 with only a game at Hanover on Wednesday left on the schedule.
Joining Erwin in the scoring column were
Clay Douthat, who had three goals,
Evan Wright (two goals), and
Sam Ives,
Nick Herberth,
Alex Nugent, and
Luke Meredith, who each had one goal. Erwin and Wright each was credited with two assists.
Transy jumped on top 3-1 in the first quarter, then scored five times in the second period for an 8-3 lead at the break. The Pioneers expanded their lead to 14-6 with a six-goal third period.
Transy led in shots, 41-29, and
Joshua Slone had eight saves for the Pioneers. Transy also had a 44-41 edge in ground balls.
Wilmington had the first goal in the game, but Transy answered with four straight scores to take control.
Transy takes on Hanover in its final game of the season on Wednesday. The contest at Hanover begins at 5:30 p.m.
