DANVILLE, KY. â€" The Pioneers trumped in-state rival Centre on Tuesday, rallying in the eighth inning to win, 7-4.
The matchup started slow, as both teams remained scoreless the the first three innings despite two hits in the first by the Transylvania offense.

It wasn't until the fourth inning that Transylvania's offense began rolling. Junior
Nick Edwards reached first base on an error by the Centre shortstop, then stole second for his second stolen base of the season. Two batters later, sophomore outfielder
Hunter Jones drove Edwards home with a single, increasing his RBI total for the season to seven. Senior
Kameron Mason also added to the offense with a single and reaching second on an error by the Centre infield.

Centre's offense answered in the bottom fo the fourth with an offensive rally of their own, tying the score at 1-1.
Starting Pitcher
Dalton Collett put in four innings of work, giving up four hits, one walk and one earned run in the fourth inning. Centre tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Transylvania offense rose to the challenge in the sixth iinning when sophomore
Kody Ross was hit by a pitch to reach first base. Jones then advanced Ross to second base with a hard grounder to second. Transylvania's next batter, senior
Sam Liggett, reached first base on an error, sending Ross across home plate to score, tying the game at 2-2.

Centre made a push for the victory in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring two runs, but the Pioneers stifled the run with a 4-6-3 double play.
With only two innings remaining, Transylvania's bats came to life.
Ross recorded his second hit of the night to start of the Pioneer rally. After a Jones walk, senior Liggett singled, advancing the runners and loading the bases. A walk by Centre pitching put Mason on base, sending Ross across the plate, tacking on the first run of the eigth.
Pinch hitter
Ben Pelham made his first appearance of the year with a single, driving home Jones and Liggett, notching the go-ahead runs. The next batter,
Zach Bynum, reached base on an error by the pitcher allowing Mason to score. Junior
Hunter Voshell, capped off the Pioneers offensive rally with an RBI single scoring pinch runner
Aaron Johnson.

Centre's bats were quieted by Pioneer pitcher
Adam Boone in the eigth and ninth innings. Boone recorded two strike outs in the eighth and mowed down all three batters he faced in the ninth inning, sealing the 7-4 win for Transylvania.

The 2-2 Pioneers take the field again Saturday, March 1
 for the first home contests of the season in a doubleheader with Baldwin Wallace University.
First pitch is slated for 12 pm at Marquard Field.
