LEXINGTON, Ky.â€"The Pioneers scored first before Piedmont College took control of the game, defeating the Pioneers, 20-8, Saturday.
The Pioneers kept the game within reach, repeatedly answering Piedmont goals, before the Lions outscored Transylvania 11-4 in the second half.
Five Pioneers scored in the loss, as
Natalie Hendrix,
Aubrey Bausum and
Lucy Meredith tallied two goals each.
Jessica Bier and
Rachel Harrison also scored for Transylvania.
The Pioneers wasted no time, taking a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest. Piedmont, however, responded with four unanswered and held a 4-1 lead with 22:28 left in the first half. Bausum pulled the Pioneers within two, 4-2, with a goal following a Piedmont foul. Piedmont, again, answered right back with a free-position goal.
Both teams scored on three free-positions shots on the day. Hendrix scored at the 12:31 mark for the Pioneers for her first of two goals on the day, following a Piedmont foul. The Lions then scored back-to-back goals in less than four minutes to extend their lead to 7-3. Hendrix scored again minutes later, pulling the Pioneers within three.
Piedmont was able to keep the Pioneers out of the net for the remainder of the half and led 9-4 at the break.
The Lions controlled the second half from the start, holding the Pioneers to four goals. Piedmont netted two, before Bausum scored her second of the day cutting the lead to six, 11-5. Piedmont then scored six straight over the next 13 minutes, all but sealing the victory.

Jessica Bier for a Pioneers goal with 4:27 left. Meredith scored twice within three minutes and the Lions led 18-7 with 3:30 remaining. Meredith scored again with six seconds left for a final score of 20-8.
Transylvania moves to 4-2 on the season and are back in action at the Transylvania University Athletics Complex Wednesday, as the Pioneers host Urbana University. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
