Sewanee, Tenn. – A first half filled with goals turned into a second half of drought, as the Transylvania Men's Lacrosse team fell 11-3 to the Sewanee Tigers at Hardee-McGee Field on Saturday afternoon.

The game started off with promise for the Pioneers as junior midfielder Josh Mesmer and senior attack Zach Roby each scored a goal in the back-and-forth first quarter that ended in a 2-2 tie between the Pioneers and the Tigers.

Freshman midfielder Thompson Summers got into the scoring column for the Pioneers with eight minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Tigers responded with two late goals in the quarter that gave them a 4-3 lead over Transylvania at the half.

The second half proved to be a much different game than the first half. Sewanee's defense suffocated the Pioneers offense throughout the half while the Tigers offense scored seven unanswered goals en route to the 11-3 victory over the Pioneers.

Transylvania collected 18 groundballs in comparison to the 36 secured by Sewanee.

Senior goalkeeper Cooper Fogle came up with 13 saves and four groundballs for the Pioneers in the loss.

Up next, the Pioneers will face the Huntingdon College Hawks in their home opener. The faceoff between the Pioneers and the Hawks is set for 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 4 at Pat Deacon Stadium.
