Senior Day belongs to Pioneers Women's Lacrosse and McCoy in win over Westminster

Box Score

Lexington, Ky. – In her last home game as a Pioneer, the Transylvania women's lacrosse team sent senior defender Kelsey McCoy out with a bang, as the Pioneers defeated the Westminster College Titans 20-3 at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win pushes Transylvania's record to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference and secures the No. 2 seed in next weekend's Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference tournament for the Pioneers.

Leading the way for the Pioneers on offense was freshman midfielder Brianna McCulley, who scored six goals in the victory. The game was McCulley's third consecutive performance of five or more goals.

Sophomore midfielder Emma Oliver and junior attacker Julia Ward continued to fill their personal stat sheets on Saturday. Oliver scored three goals and assisted on four more for Transylvania in addition to collecting five draw controls and two ground balls, while Ward scored twice and assisted on five Pioneer goals. Ward aided in the possession department by earning five draw controls.

The Pioneers wasted little time in taking control of the game as Ward and sophomore attacker Lindsey Jenkins scored a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the game for a 2-0 Pioneer advantage.

McCulley joined the action with a string of three straight goals that pushed the Pioneers' lead to 5-0 just six minutes into the game.

After a pair of Titan goals, Transylvania responded by outscoring Westminster 10-0 over the final fifteen minutes of the first half.

Among the Pioneers getting into the scoring action was junior defender Katherine Stachowski, who juked out a defender on the way to scoring her first goal of the season with just over five minutes to go in the half.

Just minutes into the second half, McCoy completed her senior day celebration as she scored her first career goal, pushing the Pioneers lead to 18-2.

After McCoy's goal, the Pioneers were content to play a more methodical style in order to run some clock in the second half. Transylvania outscored Westminster 2-1 over the final 28 minutes of the game, enough to secure a final score of 20-3.

The Pioneers played efficiently throughout the game, as they were a perfect 3-for-3 on free position shots and 9-for-9 on clear attempts.

With the regular season portion of their schedule complete, the Pioneers will now turn their attention to the ORLC playoffs. Transylvania will travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to face the No. 3 seed St. Vincent College Bearcats on Friday night, May 5, in the ORLC semifinals at Alexandre Stadium on the campus of Washington and Jefferson College. The start time of the semifinals has yet to be determined.
