Wuest bursts for 10 points as Transylvania women's lacrosse overpowers Westminster

Box Score

New Wilmington, Pa. – Freshman attack Shelby Wuest produced a 10-point day as the Transylvania women's team grew its winning streak to five games with a 22-6 victory over the Westminster (Pa.) Titans Saturday afternoon at Harold Burry Stadium.

The Pioneers improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference play in their first of two road games on the weekend. In their weekend opener, the Pioneers wasted little time surging ahead to another one-sided win.

Transylvania used a sweltering 15-1 first half to put the game out of reach at the halfway point of the match. Wuest and fellow freshman, midfielder Salem Carlow each found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead before Westminster got on the board for their first goal of the game nearly two minutes into the contest.

From that point, the Pioneers put together a perfect rest of the half, outscoring the Titans 13-0 to coast to their fifth straight win. The first half was highlighted by three consecutive goals from senior attack Julia Ward; the senior went on to score all five of her goals in the first half.

Wuest and Carlow also each notched hat-tricks in the first half to further illustrate Transylvania's domination of Westminster on the road.

Saturday's second half witnessed a more conventional exchange of scoring as the Pioneers outscored Westminster 7 to 5 to close out the day.

Wuest finished the day with four goals and a career-high six assists and six ground balls. Junior midfielder Emma Oliver had a five-point game with three assists in the win. Transylvania allowed just one shot on goal in the first half to solidify the complete performance.

Saturday's win marked the fifth time in eight contests the Pioneers scored 20 goals or more in a game.

Transylvania continues its road trip on Sunday, March 25 as it visits Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania. Opening draw is set for 12:00 p.m. noon.
