Transylvania women's lacrosse registers second-straight shutout with win over Waynesburg

Box Score

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's lacrosse team continued its dominating run through Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference play with a 24-0 victory over the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday morning.

The win is Transylvania's second straight shutout and improves the Pioneers' record to 13-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 in ORLC play with just three games remaining in the regular season. With the loss, Waynesburg's record falls to 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the ORLC.

The Pioneers' offensive showcase was headlined by freshman attack Shelby Wuest and senior attack Julia Ward, who each scored three goals and tallied five assists for a total of 16 points. Wuest now leads the ORLC with 34 assists on the season.

Transylvania took control right from the start as junior midfielder Emma Oliver and freshman midfielder Salem Carlow each scored a goal in the opening minute of play.

The Pioneers continued to show their offensive might throughout the first half as 10 different Pioneers recorded goals en route to a 15-0 lead at the half.

Transylvania continued to score at will in the second half, extending the final margin of victory to 24-0.

Among the second half highlights were two goals from freshman defender Hannah Maroni, the first of her collegiate career. Sophomore defender Harper Zeitz also notched her first goal of the season.

Transylvania's defense was stellar throughput the contest, holding Waynesburg without a shot, forcing fifteen turnovers, and not allowing the Yellow Jackets to complete a successful clear.

The Pioneers are next in action on Saturday, April 21 when they travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania for an ORLC clash with the St. Vincent College Bearcats. The last meeting between the two teams was a 17-15 St. Vincent victory that ended the Pioneers season in last season's ORLC playoffs. First draw between the Pioneers and the Bearcats is set for 1100 a.m. at the SVC Turf.
