Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lexington, Ky. – Junior outfielder Isaac Taylor grew his hitting streak to 12 games, but the Transylvania baseball team dropped a pair of games to the Anderson University Ravens in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Marquard Field.

Anderson took game one of Saturday's doubleheader 13-3 before erasing a five-run deficit to win 16-6 in the nightcap.

The Ravens remained even in the loss column with first-place Franklin after Saturday's proceedings, improving to 9-1 in HCAC play and 20-12 overall, while the Pioneers dropped to 4-6 in conference, and 14-17 overall.

In game one, the Pioneers and Anderson each plated one runner to open up the afternoon, forging a 1-1 tie after one inning as Taylor came home on a throwing error. The junior's lead-off single in the game represented his 11th straight game in which he recorded a hit.

Anderson made its moves in innings three and four, scoring an unearned run in the third inning and bursting for four runs in the fourth inning to claim a 6-1 lead against the Pioneers. Transylvania pulled back one run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double by freshman infielder Wade Lopiccolo that scored sophomore designated hitter Austin Butts to make a 6-2 game in favor of the visitors.

But the Ravens enjoyed a six-run inning in the eighth to put the game out of reach and secure its eighth conference win of the season.

Freshman starting pitcher Evan Hall took the loss in three innings of work, allowing five hits while registering five of Transy's six strikeouts.

Taylor went 2-for-5 at the plate while freshman infielder Hudson Chastain had a 2-for-4 game with an RBI.

In game two, the Pioneers cultivated a 6-1 lead after five innings through consistent offense before the Ravens broke through in the back end of the contest. Transylvania erased a one-run deficit in the third inning as sophomore outfielder Cole Ratliff knotted up the game with a RBI base-hit that scored freshman infielder Henry Molloy. The Pioneers then used aggressive baserunning to score sophomore outfielder David McAnelly from third base to go ahead, 2-1.

The Pioneers scored against in the ensuing fourth and fifth innings as freshman infielder Nick Wade scored Butts on a sacrifice fly RBI in the fourth. The offense continued to sizzle in the fifth as Taylor scored McAnelly on an RBI single for the first of three runs in the inning. Taylor came home on a fielding error, and Lopiccolo drove in Chastain on a double to centerfield to push the Pioneers to a 6-1 advantage.

Anderson found life in the top of the sixth inning, scoring two runs to cut the Pioneers' lead to 6-3 before responding with an explosive seventh inning in which the Ravens scored seven runs to take a 10-6 lead. Anderson scored six more runs over the final two innings to finish off its comeback.

Freshman relief pitcher Drew Demler absorbed the loss in game two, totaling two strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work. Freshman starting pitcher Colton Hartig went five innings of work, tallying four strikeouts while scattering six hits in his Saturday appearance.

Butts and Lopiccolo led the Pioneers offense in game two with two hits apiece; Lopiccolo added an RBI and drew a walk. Taylor expanded his hitting streak to 12 games with a 1-for-2 showing at the plate with two walks and an RBI.

Transylvania continues its HCAC schedule on Monday, April 23 as it visits the Hanover College Panthers in Hanover, Indiana. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at K.T. Young Ballpark.
