Pioneer seniors lord over Anderson as Transylvania men's lacrosse moves to 7-0 in HCLC

Box Score

Lexington, Ky. – Senior Day 2019 belonged to the seniors of the Transylvania men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers posted a 25-3 win over the Anderson University Ravens to complete an undefeated conference home run through Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference play at Pat Deacon Stadium.

Paying homage to ten members of its men's lacrosse program before Saturday's regular-season lineup, the Pioneers inserted nine of them into the starting lineup for an afternoon to remember.

Continuing its dominant tear through the HCLC, the Pioneers scored the first four goals of the day and built an 8-1 lead over the Ravens after one quarter of play. Following a goal by Jacob Miller with 3:49 to go before the half, the Pioneers witnessed a 15-1 lead as victory was assured early on Saturday afternoon.

Fittingly, five of the first eight goals were registered by seniors. Chris Schaefer amassed a hat-trick by the 4:32 mark of the first half and would go on to score eight points by the end of the contest.

The day also belonged to another senior in Nic Bailey, who finished the day with four goals and five points in all. Five different seniors scored in the first half for Transylvania as Alex Petrocelli, Webb Vanmeter, and Collin Ruegg joined in on the goal acquisitions. Joe Shermock was another senior who factored in from an offensive standpoint as the defender racked up three assists in the first half.

Transylvania continued to play to excellence in the second half as the Pioneers blanked the Ravens 5-0 in the third quarter and efficiently bled the clock in the final quarter to mark a 7-0 start to conference play with one match remaining.

The Pioneers outgained Anderson 51-24 in ground balls and won 20 of 33 face-offs. T.J. Toivonen led the defense with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Transylvania now stands at 11-4 overall in 2019 and 7-0 in HCLC play while Anderson dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Transylvania will resume its schedule on Saturday, April 27 as the Pioneers aim for their first HCLC regular-season title in two seasons, taking on the Hanover College Panthers in Hanover, Indiana. A 1:00 p.m. face-off affords the Pioneers an opportunity to finish a perfect 8-0 in HCLC regular-season play and the number one seed in the upcoming HCLC Conference Tournament.
