Box Score

Westerville, Ohio – Brianna McCulley tallied eight points and the Transylvania women's lacrosse team cruised to a 21-14 victory over the Otterbein University Cardinals at Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win is the Pioneers' first on the road this season and improves their record to 2-0, while the Cardinals fall to 2-2 on the season.

McCulley was proficient in every aspect of the game on Saturday. The senior scored five goals, recorded four assists, tallied six draw controls, and scooped up four ground balls.

Courtney Pontious led the Pioneers with six goals in the game. The junior also collected four draw controls and caused a turnover.

Otterbein jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Transylvania less than a minute into the game. However, the Pioneers responded with a score by Sophia Sparks at the 28:31 mark.

After trading goals with the Cardinals over the next 15 minutes, Transylvania ended the half on a tear as the Pioneers outscored Otterbein 5-2 over the final 10 minutes of the opening period to take a 12-8 lead into the break.

The Cardinals struck quickly yet again with a goal less than 20 seconds into the second half, but Salem Carlow responded with a goal of her own just two minutes later. Carlow finished the game with four goals and three assists for Transylvania.

Despite a ferocious battle by Otterbein, the Pioneers overpowered the Cardinals 6-2 down the stretch en route to the 21-14 victory.

Abi Waldron picked up the victory in net for Transylvania, recording five saves against 14 goals allowed in 60 minutes of action.

Defensively, Harper Zeitz anchored a Transylvania defensive line that held the Cardinals to just 19 shots on goal and forced 22 Otterbein turnovers. The senior also tallied 10 draw controls and three ground balls in the Transylvania victory.

The Pioneers will next be in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on the College of Wooster Fighting Scots. First draw between the Pioneers and the Scots is set for a 12 noon start at John P. Papp Stadium.
