Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania baseball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Chicago Maroons at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Saturday afternoon.

Chicago captured a 5-2 victory over the Pioneers in game one before a ninth-inning offensive onslaught allowed the Maroons to prevail 15-10 in game two.

TJ Keck continued his strong start to the 2020 season with another pair of potent performances on Saturday. The sophomore went 5-for-8 at the plate over the afternoon with a double and a triple. Keck also scored a pair of runs and recorded an RBI.

The Pioneers sent Devon Hart to the mound in game one. The sophomore matched his career-long performance as he worked 6.2 innings with four strikeouts against just five hits allowed.

The Maroons jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Then, Chicago added a pair of runs on in the second inning to push the lead out to 3-0 over Transylvania.

The Pioneers' offense came to life in the bottom of the second inning as Keck opened the frame with a single to left field. Michael Blair gave the Pioneers life as the junior blasted a home run over the wall in left field, cutting Chicago's lead to 3-2

The Maroons held Transylvania's offense in check over the remaining seven innings and added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to solidify the 5-2 final.

After Hart's day came to an end in the seventh inning, Luke Wilson turned in 2.1 quality innings of relief work for Transylvania. The junior tallied three strikeouts against just two hits and no runs allowed on Saturday.

In game two, Jake Schmidt got the start for Transylvania and pitched five strong innings. The junior tallied a season-high eight strikeouts and allowed just one earned run and two walks on Saturday.

Trailing Chicago 3-0 in the third inning, the Pioneers' bats came to life when Riley Willbur drove in a run with a double to centerfield, followed by an RBI single for Hudson Chastain, slicing the deficit to 3-2.

In the fourth inning, the Pioneers cut the deficit to 4-3 when Griffin Hall drove in a run with a single to left field.

Transylvania tied the game in the following inning at 4-4 when Blair smacked an RBI double into left field to score Keck.

The Transylvania offense kept churning in the sixth inning as the Pioneers turned five hits into four runs, powered by RBI doubles from Chastain and Keck to take an 8-4 lead over Chicago.

The Maroons responded with three runs of their own in the top half of the seventh inning. However, Transylvania maintained the lead as Hall drove in a run in the bottom half of the frame, handing the Pioneers a 9-7 advantage after seven.

Over the final two innings, the Maroons' offense came to life, and Chicago scored eight straight runs over the final two innings to secure control of the game.

The Pioneers added a run in the ninth, but the Maroons' defense held strong, securing the 15-10 victory for Chicago.

With the losses, Transylvania's record falls to 3-5 on the season while the Maroons stayed perfect with a mark of 5-0.

The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow for game three of their weekend series with Chicago. First pitch between the Pioneers and the Maroons is set for 12 noon Eastern Daylight time at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
