Box Score 2 Ellisville, Mo. – The Transylvania softball team moved to 5-0 on the season with an impressive pair of victories at EAA Fields on Saturday afternoon.
Transylvania opened the day with an efficient 3-0 victory over the Webster University Gorloks before defeating the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolfs by the final count of 11-5.
In game one, Carson Murray gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when she smacked a solo shot over the left field wall. The home run was the first of the sophomore's career.
The remainder of the Pioneers' offense came in the top of the second inning when
Becca Messing drove in
Alyssa Nunn and
Courtney Gentry with a hard-hit single up the middle to increase their advantage.
With a 3-0 lead in hand, the Pioneers relied upon ace
Kameron Bowling to guide the team to victory. The senior fanned six Gorloks and allowed just two hits en route to the shutout victory.
Transylvania's bats were on full display in game two as the Pioneers manufactured 11 runs off of 16 hits. The junior trio of Messing, Nunn, and
Annie Schuck powered the Transylvania offense as the three combined for five runs and seven RBI on nine hits in the high-scoring affair.
The Pioneers sent
Carlee Jeter to the mound for game two, where the freshman struck out two Prairie Wolfs and allowed six hits for her first career victory.
Bowling picked up the save with three strikeouts and no runs allowed across the final three innings of play.
Transylvania will be back in action tomorrow afternoon to wrap up their weekend in Missouri with their third and final doubleheader.
The Pioneers will face off against Fontbonne University at noon eastern, before ending the day with a game against Buena Vista University at 2:00 p.m. eastern.
