Lexington, Ky. – The six-time reigning conference tournament champion Transylvania men's lacrosse team looks to further build upon its conference dynasty in this week's 2021 Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Tournament, beginning Wednesday, May 5 against the Mount St. Joseph University Lions at 7:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
Transylvania completed a 4-0 run through HCLC play to seal the No. 1 seed in this week's four-team conference tournament with the winner advancing to the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championships.
The Pioneers will host Mount St. Joseph in the Wednesday semifinals with the winner advancing to Saturday's championship game at the location of the remaining highest-seeded team.
Wednesday's tournament matchup marks the second meeting of the season between Transylvania (11-2 overall, 4-0 HCLC) and Mount St. Joseph (4-7, 1-3 HCLC). Transylvania defeated the Lions, 23-1 on April 7 in Lexington for its largest margin of victory this season.
The winner between Transylvania and Mount St. Joseph will take on the winner of the other Wednesday semifinal featuring No. 2 seed Hanover and No. 3 seed Anderson. The Panthers will play the Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Hanover, Indiana.
On the line for Transylvania is its sixth consecutive conference tournament championship and what would be the fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Pioneers dating back to the 2017 season.
Team leaders this season are freshman Andrew Hamill (33 goals, 36 points), Bryce Lowe (31 goals, 11 assists), Trenton Sneed (26 assists, 18 goals), TJ Toivonen (17 caused turnovers, 38 ground balls, seventh all-time in NCAA Division in career caused turnovers), and Peyton Bray (95 ground balls, 8 points, 182 for 281 face-offs).
Entering the conference postseason, Transylvania boasts its best record in program history by winning percentage (.846) and rides into its conference semifinal on a season-high six-match win streak.
Transylvania has outscored opponents during conference play 87 to 12 and has scored double-digit goals in 10 of its last 11 matches.
At this time, visiting spectators are not permitted to attend nonconference or conference competitions. Only student-athlete' families of the Transylvania men's lacrosse team and members of the Transy Community (students, staff, and faculty) are permitted to attend games with a limited capacity. Those on the pass list for each student-athlete will need to have a photo identification.
