Box Score Florence, Ky. – The Transylvania baseball team showed a strong offensive effort but lost 11-6 to the Centre College Colonels at the Florence Y'alls Ballpark in Florence, Kentucky.
Evan Burnett started on the mound for Transylvania and pitched two scoreless innings. The senior struck out three Colonels, all looking. A Centre groundout in the third inning notched a run and got the scoring going on the night. While the Pioneers didn't allow any extra base hits, the Colonels chipped away and tacked on three more in the fourth to go up 4-0. Transy responded in the fifth as singles from
Nick Wade and
Walter Munday set the table for a big inning.
Calvin Schubert drew a bases loaded walk to score, and
Trent Pahl came through with a 2 RBI single to left. A fielding error then gave the Pios the tying run at 4-4.
Going into the bottom of the seventh inning all tied up, Centre had the biggest scoring frame of the night as they scored five runs to gain a late 9-4 lead. The Pioneers fought back in the eighth, with huge two out hits from
Matt Broadwater and Munday, each with RBI singles to make it a 9-6 game. Unfortunately for Transy, the Colonels were able to limit the damage and get out of the inning still ahead, and in the bottom of the eighth, got their two runs right back to make it 11-6, which stood for the final score.
The Pioneers look ahead to a three game weekend series starting on Saturday, March 12, against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, at Earle Combs Stadium in Richmond, Kentucky.
