Box Score In the first round of the HCAC Tournament, the #20 Pioneers faced the Manchester Spartans on Hall Field as the no. 1 see hosts of the tournament. The HCAC tournament is a six team, double elimination tournament with the championship held on Saturday.
Transy started quickly in the bottom of the first with a six spot on the scoreboard. Senior Abby Frazier led things off with a single to left field. Katie Mewes put down a SAC bunt to move Frazier, and a throwing error put the Pios on first and third. With no outs and two on, senior Annie Shuck knocked a three-run homerun over the left field fence to put the Pioneers up 3-0. After a pitching change, senior Taylor Senter walked to start the offense again, then stole second before scoring on an RBI double down the line by junior Stella Wulker. Emilie Teall's RBI double down the line scored Wulker to earn the 5-0 lead. Hadlee Carter followed with a walk before another pitching change for Manchester. Ry'Ann Tharp put the ball in play, allowing Teall to score on a throwing error by Manchester before finishing the inning with the 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Wulker led off with a double to right center and scored on an RBI triple by Carson Murray down the right field line. Emily Hestand pinch hit for the Pios and sent the ball on the ground to the right side to score Murray for the 8-1 lead over the Spartans.
Teall started the bottom of the fifth with a walk. Tharp's single down the third base line moved her to second and put two on. Mewes walked to load the bases for Shuck. With two outs, Shuck walked, bringing in Teall for a 9-4 lead. Senter sent a 2RBI double to left center scoring Tharp and Mewes to go up 11-4 for the final score.
Freshman Sophie Moshos picked up her 14th win on the year, giving up just one hit and striking out four over four innings.
The Pioneers will play tomorrow at 5:30 pm against the winner of tonight's last game between MSJ and Franklin.
