Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. - Transy Baseball moved to 2-0 to begin the season after defeating Maryville College 6-4 behind late clutch hitting, started by a big two run double by
Riley Hill in the 8th inning to turn a one run deficit into a one run lead and a big insurance run in the ninth.
Luke Patton went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs and striking out 5 batters.
Henry Craig earned the win in relief. He went 2.1 innings and struck out 2 batters.
Matt Armstrong got the save, pitching 1.2 innings and striking out the game tying run to end the game.
Henry Mitcham doubled to lead off the second inning, and
Chase Gartner put the Pioneers up first in with an RBI single to score Mitcham. Oglethorpe scored a pair in the third, but Transy responded in the fourth.
Austin Taylor doubled to right center and would later score on an RBI single by
Caleb Bowers. Bowers would later score on a wild pitch to tie the game.
The Scots took the lead in the sixth on an RBI groundout.
The Pioneers added two more runs in the eighth, and one in the ninth. With bases loaded,
Riley Hill doubled down the left field line to score two runs and give Transy the 5-4 lead. In relief in the eighth with 2 outs,
Matt Armstrong struck the batter out swinging with two runners on base to give Transy momentum heading to the ninth.
Transy added the insurance run in the ninth.
Trent Youngblood doubled down the right field line and was scored by
Henry Mitcham's double the next at bat. Mitcham led the Pioneers going 3-5 with two doubles.
Youngblood finished with two doubles and is now six away from breaking the program's all time doubles record. He is now 12 hits away from 200, 6 doubles away from the doubles record, and 1 walk away from the walk record.
