LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania Volleyball swept the Transy Invite, defeating Manchester and DePauw on Saturday at the Clive M. Beck Center.Â
Game One: Transylvania 3, Manchester 0
The Pioneers displayed their offense early, opening the first set with a 9-1 lead. After a brief exchange, the Pioneers rallied another run, scoring five consecutive points to take a 19-5 advantage after a sequence of a kill from
Macy Lentz and
Cecelia Roberts, and two kills from
Lilly Kaiser. Transylvania closed the opening set on a 6-0 run to take a 25-6 win. The second set would see both teams battle to take an advantage, with both exchanging leads throughout the set. The Pioneers took a 22-20 lead after a kill from Kaiser, followed by kills from Lentz,
Peyton Mast and Roberts to take set two at 25-23. The third set would see the Pioneers replicate the first set, as an ace from Lentz put Transylvania ahead 14-5.
Addie Atcher would score two consecutive kills to close set three 25-13, and give the Pioneers a 3-0 win.Â
Isabella Myers led the Pioneers with 12 kills, followed by 10 from Atcher and eight from Roberts.
Macy Lentz recorded 29 assists,
Julia Brown led the team in digs with 12.Â
Cecelia Roberts reached a career milestone of 100 career blocks in the victory.Â
Game Two: Transylvania 3, DePauw 1
After trailing early in the opening set, Kaiser's ace would give the Pioneers a 5-4 advantage. An ace from
Julia Brown followed by consecutive kills from
Addie Atcher would extend the Pioneers lead at 14-11. Kills from
Cecelia Roberts,
Addison Jarvis and
Lilly Kaiser, as well as an ace from
Julia Brown, would give the Pioneers a final run to earn the 25-20 opening set win. Transylvania opened the second set on a 10-1 run to take an early advantage. A kill from Lentz, followed by two kills from Jarvis and an ace from Brown would be a key sequence as the Pioneers took a 17-5 lead.
Isabella Myers would score two consecutive kills to earn the second set win at 25-15. After falling in the final exchange of set three, the Pioneers rallied back in set four with a 14-7 lead in the set. After a response from DePauw,
Kennedy Beatty's three consecutive aces and kills from Myers and Addison gave the Pioneers a 23-13 lead. Jarvis and Roberts would land the final two kills for Transylvania, giving the Pioneers a 25-16 set four win, and a 3-1 victory.Â
Myers again led the Pioneers in kills with 15, followed by 13 from Kaiser and nine from Roberts.
Macy Lentz led the Pioneers with 44 assists while
Julia Brown led the team with 15 digs.Â
Transylvania returns to action on Wednesday, October 22nd, traveling for an HCAC match up with Berea College at 7:00 p.m.
