LEXINGTON, KY -Â Â Transylvania University fell to 0-1 on the season, falling to Kenyon College in an 18-9 loss at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday.Â
Jack Miller scored first for the Pioneers at the 12:53 mark of the first quarter. After a Kenyon goal, Transylvania would regain the lead with a goal from
Alex Madson. In the second quarter with the Pioneers trailing 4-2,Â
Josh Harney would score his first goal of the season. Harney would score again just over two minutes later, followed by another goal from Madson to pull the Pioneers to within a one point deficit, 6-5. Kenyon would respond, carrying an 8-5 lead into the half.
Huck Campbell would score first in the second half for Transylvania, ending a 3-0 run for Kenyon at the start of the third quarter. Madson would score his third goal of the afternoon minutes later, but Kenyon would lead 13-7 after the third quarter. Madson and
Jack Miller would score consecutive goals to start the fourth, but Kenyon would end the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to secure the 18-9 win.
"We always know the Kenyon squad is going to bring an NCAA tournament level of play which will benefit us in the near future," said Head Coach
Logan Otto. "We definitely will leave this one with a lot to build from as we head towards next weekend with two very strong teams upcoming."
Transylvania returns to action at the Sewanee Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, February 15th and Sunday, February 16th against Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois Institute of Technology.
