Lexington, KYÂ â The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans proved to be a tough opponent for the Transylvania Pioneers on Sunday evening, claiming a decisive 10-0 victory at Legends Stadium. While the Titans' offense found its rhythm throughout the game, their pitching staff effectively silenced the Pioneers' bats.
UW-Oshkosh jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs. Brenden Max drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, and Zach Taylor followed with an RBI single to put the Titans ahead 2-0. They added another run in the top of the second when Jack McNamara singled to score Braydon Skenandor, extending their lead to 3-0.
The Titans' offense remained consistent, adding two more runs in the top of the sixth. Jake Surane delivered a key hit with a two-run double to right-center, increasing their advantage to 5-0. The eighth inning saw a significant offensive outburst from UW-Oshkosh as they plated five runs. Highlights of the inning included an RBI double by Nick Shiu, a two-RBI single from Carter Stebane, and RBI singles from Mason Kirchberg and Owen Housinger, making the score 10-0.
The Pioneers struggled to generate offense throughout the contest. Their bats were largely held in check by Titans' starting pitcher Josh Jansen, who pitched a dominant 7.0 innings, allowing only three hits and one walk while striking out seven Transylvania batters. Brett Gaynor pitched a scoreless eighth inning, allowing one hit and striking out two to close out the game.
The Pioneers managed just four hits in the game. Junior designated hitter Seita Shiratori, senior second baseman Henry Mitcham, freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco, and senior catcher Caleb Bowers each recorded a single for Transylvania.
Sophomore pitcher Henry Craig took the loss for the Pioneers, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing three runs on four hits. The Transylvania bullpen saw appearances from senior pitcher Jacob Moberly, freshman pitcher Tristan Cooper, and freshman pitcher Kemper Dotson, but they were unable to contain the Titans' offense.
Looking Ahead:
The Pioneers will look to bounce back quickly as they are scheduled to face UW-Oshkosh again for the final game of the round robin tomorrow afternoon, Monday, at Legends Stadium.
