Men's Lacrosse Defeats Anderson in HCLC Tournament Semi-Finals

LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University opened the 2025 Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) Tournament on Wednesday with a 30-3 victory over Anderson at Pat Deacon Stadium. 

Andrew Welch scored first in the match up on an unassisted goal in the opening five minutes of play, just under twenty seconds later Alex Madson scored for the Pioneers as Transylvania jumped to an early 2-0 lead. Welch scored again in the first quarter, assisted by Jack Miller, while Sam Neff scored the final goal of the quarter with less than two minutes remaining for a 4-1 lead after the first. 

In the second, Ryan Geisler scored in the opening two minutes on an assist from Ben Gaccino. Less than a minute later, Transylvania would score two goals in a twenty second span, as Andrew Welch scored back to back goals to extend the lead to 7-1. Welch and Madson would score within seconds of one another minutes later, while Madson, Miller, Gaccino and a final goal of the half from Welch would give Transylvania a 16-1 lead going into the half. 

In the third, Charlie Horner and Luke Hinton scored to open the second half. Hinton, Miller, Harney, Campbell, Horner, Geisler and Eldridge scored in a nine goal quarter for the Pioneers, they would lead 25-2 heading into the fourth quarter. 

Madson and Stetter scored in the opening minutes of the fourth, followed by Horner and Hinton. With 04:45 remaining, Transylvania tied the program record of goals in a game with the 30th goal of the game being scored by Jack McKiernan. Transylvania would secure the 30-3 victory. 

Nick DeGrandi recorded four saves in the goal for Transylvania. Ethan Kroll also appeared in goal for the Pioneers in the final quarter. 

The Pioneers advance to the HCLC Tournament Final, which will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 1 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium against Hanover.
