Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Ky.—After falling 11-3 in game one, the Transylvania University softball team downed visiting Thomas More, 5-1, in Wednesday's second game at John R. Hall Field.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the second inning on an RBI single from Bree Appel. However, the Pioneer offense wasted no time tying the score at one in the home half of the inning. With two on, Cassie Hamilton drove a shot up the middle to score Katie Hulsman and shift momentum back in favor of the home team.
The Pioneers added another run in the bottom of the third as Krista DeBurger crossed the plate thanks to an RBI single from Elizabeth Young to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.
Transy added three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pick up the win and split Wednesday's games. Rhyan Disser drove a liner to the gap in left center scoring Hulsman and DeBurger and extending the Pioneer lead to 4-1. Ashley Frees then stepped to the plate and knocked an RBI single to score Young putting the Pioneers giving the Pioneers their fifth run.
Chelsea Pharris was phenomenal on the mound going the distance for the Pioneers allowing one run on just three hits in seven innings of work. DeBurger led the Pioneer offense going 4-for-5 from the plate.
In game one, a solo shot from DeBurger tied the game at one. Transy held Thomas More scoreless before adding two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Hulsman singled to center field to score Lauren Willett putting runners at the corners for DeBurger. DeBurger drove in Megan Aebersold with a single to put the Pioneers up, 4-1.
The Saints added runs in each of the next three innings to take game one, 11-3.
The Pioneers travel to Bluffton Saturday for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference double header. Saturday's first game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
