MEMPHIS, TN - The Pioneers faced off against non-conference opponent Rhodes College in Tennessee on Saturday afternoon. Despite the 21-7 loss, Transylvania continues to show promising aspects both on the offense and defense sides.Â
After a quick pair of goals from Rhodes, Transylvania's Sophie Garrett would find the back of the net at the 10:52 mark. After a Rhodes goal, TaNya Barbee would score her first goal of the afternoon making the score 3-2. Rhodes closed out the first quarter on a 3-0 run, with the score being 5-2. The momentum for Rhodes continued to show as they scored another quick three goals. At the 9:12 and 8:23 marks, the Pioneers would string together another pair of goals coming from both Garrett and Barbee. The second quarter closed with a score of 13-4.Â
On a man-up possession in the seventh minute of the third quarter, Barbee found Lula Thompson who would go on to score. Rhodes went on to score on a man up possession after a green card was assessed a green card. In another man-up possession Lilly Craft would score on a free position goal. Minutes later Sophie Garrett went on to complete her hat trick and score her third goal of the afternoon. The game would conclude with a final score of 21-7.Â
Transylvania is looking forward to their next match on Wednesday, March 5th. The Pioneers will take on in-state rival Centre at 7 PM at home at Pat Deacon Stadium.
