HCAC Names Carrie Stevens Defensive Player of the Week

CARMEL, Ind. - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Women's Soccer teams competed in week five of the 2025 season. In the midweek game against Ohio Wesleyan, Stevens totaled nine saves in the draw. On senior day, Bluffton recorded three saves.

Sara Knight (Sewanee, Tenn.) Berea College | Forward | Sophomore - Sara Knight, a Sophomore midfielder from Sewanee, TN, was a key contributor in the Mountaineers' offense during this week. Sara tallied 4 goals, tying the school record for goals in a game, which has held for over a decade.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Carrie Stevens (Winchester, Ky.) Transylvania University | Goalkeeper | Junior - In a 1-1 tie with Ohio Wesleyan, Stevens recorded nine saves, performing at a high level to defend the goal for the Pioneers in a close match. In a 2-0 victory over Bluffton, Stevens recorded an additional three saves for 12 on the week.

  • Brysan Brewer (Middletown, Ohio) Bluffton University | Forward | Sophomore - Brewer netted her first career hat trick, powering Bluffton to a 3-0 win over Olivet on Wednesday afternoon. She finished the week with 7 total shots, 6 on frame and 3 goals.
  • Emma Gill (Needham, Ind.) Hanover College | Forward | Sophomore - Emma Gill posted a 1-1 record last week, taking on a powerful North Central team and defeating Franklin 3-0. The sophomore netted two goals on five shots for a combined four points. Gill finished the week with a .800 shot on goal percentage.
  • Lily DeTray (Oak Harbor, Ohio) Manchester University | Midfield | Junior - Lily DeTray energized Manchester's offense this past week, scoring two goals against Grace Christian and one against Earlham. DeTray also added an assist to her box score in a road win against Grace Christian.
  • Lauren Marquardt (Savage, Minn.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Midfield | Senior - Lauren Marquardt helped lead Rose-Hulman to a 1-1 record where they lost to DePauw 1-0 and defeated Berea 6-0. In Rose's victory over Berea, Marquardt recorded a goal and an assist, finishing with a game-high three points.
  • Eva Blanke (Ashland, Ky.) Transylvania University | Forward | Sophomore - Eva Blanke had a strong week leading the offense for the Pioneers. In a 1-1 tie with Ohio Wesleyan, Blanke scored the goal for Transylvania. In a 2-0 victory over Bluffton, Blanke scored both goals for the Pioneers. Blanke was the offensive production Transylvania needed in a 1-0-1 week.

  • Adrienne Weyers (Granger, Ind.) Anderson University | Goalkeeper | Senior - Adrienne Weyers saved 7 of the 9 shots she faced in Anderson's 2-2 tie with Mount St. Joseph.
  • Nancy Perez (Lancaster, Ky.) Berea College | Defender | Senior - Nancy Perez, a Senior center back from Lancaster, KY, led the Mountaineers' back line to their 5th shutout of the season this week. Nancy not only helped secure the backline, but also was credited with 2 assists this week, tying the program record for assists in a game.
  • Madison Kutscher (Rossford, Ohio) Bluffton University | Goalkeeper | First Year - Kutscher pitched a 3-0 shutout against Olivet on Wednesday. She finished the week with 15 saves and 1.00 goals against average for the two matches.
  • Emma Patterson (Owensboro, Ky.) Hanover College | Goalkeeper | Senior - Patterson led the Panthers, getting two starts in the frame, with a clean sheet against Franklin. The senior recorded seven saves through 155 minutes of play.
  • Reagan Claus (Crown Point, Ind.) Manchester University | Goalkeeper | First Year - Reagan Claus started in goal for Manchester, anchoring the defense in two matches this past week. Claus had six saves in Manchester's first win of the season over Grace Christian, and carried the momentum into Saturday as she posted 16 saves at Earlham.
  • Brooke Spurlock (Lawrence, Kan.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Goalkeeper | Senior - Brooke Spurlock helped lead Rose-Hulman to a 1-1 record where they lost to DePauw 1-0 and defeated Berea 6-0. Spurlock finished the week with an average of just 0.5 goals allowed per game, while recording four saves (two in both games). She finished the week with an 80.0% save percentage, while recording her fourth clean sheet of the season against Berea.
