William T. Young Sr. served as a member ofTransylvania’s Board of Trustees for 37 years, including anunprecedented 23 years as chairman. A successful businessman,horseman, and philanthropist, he was a tireless supporter of theuniversity, giving generously of his time and financial resources.The driving force behind the construction of the William T. YoungCampus Center, Young was also instrumental in securing the fundingfor state of the art outdoor facilities for baseball, softball,soccer, and field hockey and for the Beck Athletic and RecreationCenter.
