William F. “Billy” Reed ’66 is widely regarded as one of the top sportswriters the state of Kentucky has ever produced. Reed began his long career in journalism while still an undergraduate at Transylvania. He headed the Transy student publications board and worked for both the Crimson and The Rambler.

Later, Reed wrote for the Louisville Courier-Journal, the Lexington Herald-Leader, and Sports Illustrated magazine, covering several major sporting events including the Kentucky Derby, the Indianapolis 500, the Olympic Games, and the NCAA Final Four. He is also the author of several books and the recipient of the Kentucky Sports Writer of the Year award.
