Judy Henry was a winning athlete who established a reputation as a fierce competitor in the many sports she competed in while a Pioneer.

Henry competed in four sports, including women’s basketball, softball, field hockey, and cross country for Transylvania. Incredibly, while participating in a heavy amount of sports, Henry excelled in every arena.

Henry lettered all four years in field hockey, competing as a four-year starter for the Pioneers. Henry’s final game penalty stroke won the 1981 State Tournament. Her winning efforts led the Pioneers to KWIC Championships during her junior and senior campaigns.

Henry also enjoyed a prolific basketball career for the Pioneers, amassing 633 points, 353 rebounds, and 146 career assists; the Class of 1982 graduate was a three-year starter for the Pioneers women’s basketball team and served as a co-captain in her senior year.

Henry matched her on-court and on-field success in the classroom, as she was named to the Dean’s List four times. Henry’s effect on teammates was tangible as well. Said one teammate of her presence: “Judy had an extreme ‘will to win.’ Her love of playing the game was evident and contagious. She made us all look and play better.”
